December,  2012


Adam Lanza (age 20)was on anti-depressant drugs when he went crazy and murdered  26 children

(6 & 7  year  olds) and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

Then committed suicide.

What will his autopsy show?? and and what did his blood test show???  What drugs??

Why was he crazy/angry?  What did his brother Ryan say?

How long will it take to:

Ban Automatic weapons.

Ban Violent videos.

Ban drugs that make you crazier than you already are?

I feel what I feel.

"No one can tell me how I feel."  My Grand-Daughter - Hanna, told me. " No one can tell you how

 you feel.  "  "You feel what you feel."

I feel sad for  everyone in Newtown,  Connecticut.  I feel sad for everyone at Sandy Hook Elementary      

School.  I feel sad for this country,  .......this world.  I feel sad for the families of the victims.

I feel so sad for the children, and everyone  killed.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I hope 2012 was a good year for you!
I have entertained myself with the T.V.' programs of the sleuthing  of Sherlock,
"The Mentalist", the reruns of "Monk".  Channel 56 offers my favorite Liberal news
commentators:  Rachel Maddow,  Chris  Hayes, Chris Matthews, etc. .  I have watched
"Late Night" -David Letterman since the show origination -30 some years ago.  Jon Stewart
is a great show.  Comic relief works.
Tim and girls are doing wonderfully.  Tim likes his new job as V.P. at Continental.
Lauren will be graduating from Notre Dame Prep. in June and planning on going into
Medicine, maybe at Grand Valley.  She scored a 30 on the ACT. The test--proving what we
already knew-- She is highly gifted.
Hanna is an honor student in the 7th grade at Holy Family.  She loves soccer!  And the star of her team.
Hanna's  voice  is beautiful.  The song  " A Castle on The Clouds is Devine."

Nancy Polosi is brilliant!  The interview with Charlie Rose last night was exceptionally great.

My Aunt Janet has a theory on free floating fat---If one person looses weight another
person will gain it.

I think that the evil  ones that profited unethically, through Banking, Wall Street, Scams--etc.

Sauerkraut   -  a little butter in a frying pan,  a little flax seed, a little apple,
saute until water evaporates, a little browned.  Enjoy.
A million dollars was given to a Research Dr. to go to Poland to find out why
the people there had a very low Cancer rate.  A million dollars later the results
of the in-depth study  was that the people ate Sauerkraut.
(Sauerkraut  with any kind of pork is very good.)

50% more Cancer in woman that have taken estrogen.  So why are the Dr's still
prescribing estrogen?  I hate to guess.
Could it be possible that there is a link between birth control pills - (estrogen) and
the huge increase of children being born with autism?

I use olive oil on my feet at night.  Very nice.  Natural.

I enjoy the Board Walk/ walk  in Palmer Park and enjoy watching the Freighters sail the River blue.
The boards are easier on my knees than cement, asphalt, or  anything that can't
absorb shock.  Many track coaches don't know this yet.  Track shoes help make feet happy.

I'm planning on writing a book---"How to successfully raise children - 50% of the time."

Christian Stevens was loved and respected by many People including most  Libyans.
The 4 Americans killed was tragic -violent -stupidity.  Extremely sad.  My sympathy
to their families and to all that knew and loved them.

Almost all Education should be on line and free.  Charge a little for the final tests & credits.

Reading should be taught phonetically on Local T.V. , and Infinity, and  on line.  Free.

I would have trained for the Olympics but I am built more for pleasure than speed.

The Olympics are Awesome!

I thought that my Grandmother --Marion Casler Stubbs died from Cancer but my Sister Nancy
told me that after the cancer set in she stopped eating and drinking and shut herself down.

It's another beautiful day here in St.Clair, Michigan;  temperatures in the 80's.  Many parts of
the Country will be over 100* again.

What was the result of James Eagan Holme's Drug Tests? Plum Crazy? Violence!

My deepest sympathy for all the victims and family's of this most horrific assault in

Aurora, Colorado.

Approximately 12 people killed!  And 59  people wounded.

My prayers are that you are comforted.  I pray that there will be change

regarding:  Drugs,  Violent entertainment, gun laws, safety in public places, education

of everyone to symptoms of the Insane.

If a public servant - under oath, lies about receiving a bribe/"cash kick back" -
will the public servant get a longer prison term than if he admits that  he asked for
a cash kick back and received money?---(And the fraud can be proven.)
Does the amount of money stolen influence the judge and his decision on how
much time the criminal  would get?

About 50 years ago I asked my Grandfather Chester Bell, if he thought there
ever would be peace in the Middle East ?  He sagely replied,  "There never

Miss America

     The Miss America contestants:  50 Smiling, voluptuous, beautiful, young woman--
burst through the curtains, masterfully walking tall in their stiletto heals-- radiant and
confident  --Obviously no one had told them that women have the unfair responsibility  of
raising the Children,  Caring for the Old and the Sick,  doing 95% of the house-work,
balancing the budget,  all the while staying thin and cheerful/ taking care of their Husbands'
( or maybe a significant Other's) Ego,
and being forced by the Republican Congress  to put up with a salary .23% less than a
man's salary for the same job!
     I think the judges should be judging--instead of evening-wear, swimsuit, and answering one
question---
The Contestants should be judged on their Grade Point Average, Community Organizational
Experience,  and Character References.   (Slow dancing in heals- backwards,while smiling
and swooning will be counted for extra points  by  most of the judges.)
Ladies remember, - that life's problems come in many forms but if you listen to Suzy Orman's
advise and can figure out money you will be ahead of the game.


 

The Casual Observer - 5/31/12

  My first cousin---once removed - Tony,  couldn't find a job.  Nothing was quite right.
Finally  I  found him a job on a farm, - sorting potatoes.  The big potatoes in
one pile and the little potatoes in another pile.   After 2 weeks  Tony  quit.  I asked him,
"Why did you  quit?"  Tony said,  " I quit, because of all the decisions. "  "Is this a big potato or
a little potato?"

Tony's Brother, Justin,  had been looking for a job for a long time.  Finally I found
Justin  a job as a switch- man.  He got a little shack to live in, and all he had to do, - At mid-night. -
was  to hang a lantern out to signal the train to switch tracks.  He loved the job-- No people,
No phone calls,  etc..  But within  2  weeks, Justin quit the job.  I  asked,--
"Justin, why are you quitting?"    Justin said,  "It was that damn lantern."

Now both Tony and Justin are in D.C.  working in Congress.

Money/Irony

Multi- Billions of dollars are missing from the War Efforts, - "Unaccounted for".  A brief mention in the news.

"A lady of the evening " doesn't get paid.    A major story- making  the front page;

Men resigning, being fired, being charged!  This story is as old, as the oldest profession in the world.

This story is a diversion from the real problems:  Money,  Accountability,  and Transparency.

(The author of "The Wizard of Lies---"  (The Bernie Maddoff /Poncy story)   suggests that your

investment capital  be held in a Conservatory Bank. )

The common thread in the stories of war,  the ladies of the evening, and the  Bernie Maddoff  scam
-- is --there is no respect , no  loving kindness, no honesty. -   Sad stories all.

Lets get our priorities in order.

The Gospel.

"Hold on!"

Grandpa - Chester Bell;  Mom's Dad;  was a Chief Engineer on the Great Lakes.  This meant he sailed
9 months of the year.  This  also meant that he did not have much time behind the wheel - driving.  He was a terrible driver.  Dad, Mom,  and all the four kids, and Grandma Bell, were all packed into a yellow
station wagon to go to Toledo to pick up Grandpa Bell.  Grandpa was driving on the way home.
(This was before seat belts.)  Grandpa saw a pop-corn stand on the right side of the road, and asked,
"Does of anyone want pop-corn.?   We all enthusiastically called out a loud, "YES".   Grandpa turned
right and yelled ,  "Hold On."    Never even slowing down.   I flew over the front seat and landed
under the dash board.  Luckily we were all O.K.

It was a cold, snowy, morning.  Ice covered the snow.  Dad was going to give us all a ride to school
in his Mobil Gas Station Jeep.  The Jeep was white, with "John E Stubbs" boldly written on the side  and
a flying red red horse  on either side.  The Jeep had a cab with a passenger seat.  The back was open-
no walls,with benches on either side.  We all piled in:  Nancy, Joe, and maybe Allen and Donnie Kane, and I.  Dad pulled out onto St. Clair Hwy.,  from Arden Road and hit the slick ice and spun -                Dad yelled,    "Hold On!"
The kids next to the cab held onto the cab.  The other kids leaned forward and held onto each other .
The Jeep spun around more than once.   No one fell out.  Everyone was O.K.  Dad drove onto school.

Dad was driving.  We were all in the the yellow station wagon on the way to take me to be a camp counselor at "Mac-Do-Lodge" in Wisconsin.  Dad was coming over a hill, lickety/split when we all
saw a car at the bottom of the hill, across the road.  It turned out to be an old Doctor and his wife
making a U-turn.  Dad yelled out,    "Hold on."    He stood the yellow station wagon on it's nose and
pulled to the right, missing getting an early pass into the pearlly gates.   Everyone was O.K.

The other day I was at my son - Tim's house.   I had taken  Kate's deck chair cushion's to wash
them.  I had left the cushion's in the drive-way near the garage .  My car was parked in the Street.
The trunk was open to load the car.  Hanna (12)  was helping me load the car.  I said,  " I'll back-up
the car -closer to the garage to get the cushions.  Hanna said, "I'll get them.""
I got into the car.  Fussed around.  Started the car.  Checked the mirror to the right.  Nothing.
Checked the rear-view mirror. I  heard my Father's voice,   "Hold on."    "Never back up unless you know were the kids are."  I saw pink.  Hanna was behind the car- loading the cushions.
I turned off the car.  Got out.  Hanna was on the lawn.  "Grandma, you almost ran over me."

I hugged her and hugged her, and hugged her.  " I love You!  I'll never back up again."  I went to
leave and Hanna called out--"Grandma, I love you."   And I called back, "I love you, too."
 I never felt more like crying.

"Grandma, I love you."

"Grandma, I love you."  The ultimate forgiveness.

Your smart and good looking and very funny!  And thanks to your Mother for doing such
a great job raising you!   From a loyal fan.

The Irish Tease

When my Brother Joe told Dad, (Irish) that he was going to study law;  Dad said, "We won't hold it against you."
  (Joe graduated from George Washington in law with high honors, and is extremely successful !)

When my Brother Jack told Dad that he  was going to study to  become a Methodist Minister; Dad said "Good,  now I might have a chance of getting into heaven."

When I told Dad that Tom was going to take me to the movies;  Dad said,"Oh no, doesn't Tom have
enough troubles?"  (Tom had about 6 younger brothers and sisters and no Father in sight.)

When Aunt Eleanore  ask Dad if he was going to send his girls to college, Dad said, "What and make
the same mistake your Dad made with you?"

Dad owned the Mobile Gas Station on the River when I was growing up.  There was a regular
bunch of kibitzers that hung out there.

If one of the kids came in with shaggy hair, the tease was,  "What's the matter,  Did your barber die?"

If he comes back with a hair cut..."What,  did you get your ears lowered?"

There was always Monday Morning Quater-Backing.  Bob Reynolds was a regular; His nick-name
was "Fearless".  I called him" Fearless" for years, until he told me  not to call him that anymore.  I said O.K. but  I said, "You first have to tell me how you got the name, "Fearless".  He said, "I never wanted to
play football, but they talked me into it.  It was one of the first plays of the game, I caught the ball,
these big guys were running after me, so I ran it into the side-lines so I wouldn't get tackled."  I quit football.
But the name stuck.

One braggart came in regularly bragging about what great gas mileage he got on his car.  I think it was my
Uncle Jerry Johnson, that worked for Dad, got the idea, that when the braggart was inside  bragging
on his car, Jerry would add a little more gas to  the braggarts gas tank.  This joke went on for quite a
long time before it was found out.  A great  laugh was had by all.

Another regular drove a "souped-up muscle car and when he left, he gunned the motor and peeled out-
tires squealing.   So Uncle Jerry,  while  the hot -rodder talked,  jacked the back tires up--just a little,
so when he went to peel out, his tires just spun.  A Big laugh for all the regulars.

Gas was .19 Cents a gallon then.  (1959)  The  attendants washed the wind-shields and the head-
lights, checked the oil and the water and called the regulars by name and ask about their family.

Mexico will soon export Organic fruits and vegetables  instead of Drugs.  The power of prayer and
good people  will win.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will win another 4 years.  They are the smartest and the most diplomatic.

I think pollution contributes to the obesity problem.

"Super-Nannny":  Observes,  Discusses,  States desired outcomes,  Sets  limits,  Gives "time-outs", and
Acknowledges good behavior.  This program has come non too soon!

College  courses should be on Line and Free.  Class-rooms used for testing-Fee charged.  Also classrooms
could be used for Art, Music, Discussion, Labs,  Counseling, Theater.
College Tuition is too High!  In relationship to the job market, and the economy, and the ability to pay!

Reading should be taught phonetically on T.V.  7:00 am and repeated at 7:00 pm.
It should be available on line.  Seven days a week.  Keep it going.

The discussion of woman's reproduction is a diversion  from the main problem--the economy.
Money is the main issue in having children.   Many men are not being responsible in any way to
their children.  Children are our most valuable possession.  We need to make children our main
priority!  Time, Kindness and everything they need to to grow and blossom.

Don Hasler's old dark jokes as I remember:

Many a day  a Factory Worker left the factory pushing a wheel- borrow filled with saw dust.
On those days  the guard at the exit door would search through the saw dust to make sure that the
Factory Worker was not stealing anything .  Years went by.  And years the Worker's wheel borrow
filled with saw dust was searched.
After both the factory worker and the guard retired the two men ran into each other at a local Pub.
The Guard said to the Worker, " I know you were stealing something--all those years, but I could
never figure out what it was.  Would you tell me, now--I won't tell.  The Worker smiled and replied,
"Wheel-borrows."


A friend of Don's told Don that his Father had taught him how to swim in the St.Clair River by
taking him out in a row boat and throwing him over-board and yelling "Sink or Swim."
Don said to the kid, "Gee,  You must have been scared!   "Nah, Swimming to shore was  easy,
Getting out of the gunny sack was the hard part."


This prisoner had been in jail for forty years.  The prisoner, while in jail, to pass the time , had
taught an ant to do summersaults, and back flips, and hand stands.  He kept his pet ant in a match box.
The convict was finally  released from prison.  He went into a nearby bar and ordered a beer.  The Ex-Con pulled out the match-box in which he kept his pet ant.  He wanted to show the bar-tender his pet ant.
The ant crawled out of the box.....the ex-con said to the bar-tender..."See this ant?" And the
bar tender said,    "Yup, and came down heavy with his big hand, "Got him."

President Obama - Hold the Banks Accountable!

President Obama:

Don't cut the Banks any slack.  The Scam Artist don't need a break.  The victim's do.  The poor.

Hold them to the same standard as everyone else.   Fraud is fraud.  Nail them.

Bush's housing/mortgage policies were a joke.  Or an opportunity for fraud.  Or intentional fraud.

Stop the bad guys.

P.S.  There are 99% more poor votes than rich votes!

Sex Education:  Sex often creates a baby.  Most sexually transmitted diseases are curable.
Aides is not curable.  HIV is treatable - not curable.

Birth Control Pills increase a womens' odds of breast cancer by 50%.  DON'T TAKE BIRTH CONTROL PILLS!

 Much talk about abortion.  Making abortion illegal  can't be enforced.  Abortions can be made safer--
If done legally with  M.D.'s in charge.  Grandma Bell told me that her friends that got illegal
abortions from the back alley butchers never had children.  Lack of money is usually the key factor
in woman seeking an abortions.

No one is talking about Child Support.
 DNA is now making identifying the  absentee father possible.  Collecting Child Support is a Huge
Problem.
Avoiding these problems is better than trying to solve them.

No education in --How to make a good marriage.  Rule #1  -  Know who you are.
Rule #2- Find a match.  If you are a good honest person you will be happier with someone
with the same values.  Values, cultures, age, attraction--  similar--  will be an easier match.
(there will always be exceptions.)  But like one old world person said "A bird can marry a fish--
but where would they live?"

Eddy Elementary -Kindergarden, Sixth Street, St.Clair, Michigan, USA - 1946.

World War II  was  Over.

I was 5 years old.  I walked from my house on 8th & Jay around the corner and knocked on Chuckie
Eggars" door so we could walk to school together.  I had to wait for him because his Mother had to iron his shirt.   Almost always I had to wait.  I sat on his back steps. The school was only about a block away but we were always  late  and almost always had to
sit in the corner.  I didn't mind sitting in the corner because I got a lot of spankings at home for not
minding.  Sitting in the corner wasn't that bad.

Kindergarden was mostly about  learning  to fear.  Stories about the "Three Bears",  "Little Red Riding Hood"-The Big Bad Wolf,    Witches - Hansel and Gretel  and Trolls - The the "Three Billy Goats Gruff."  These stories were told in Germany and the British Isles to the children to make them afraid
of wondering into the woods.
I never in my life saw an actual Witch or Troll or a Wolf that looked at all like either Grandmother.

I learned to color with fat crayons on newsprint.   I laughed when I heard about the child that had to go see the school psychologist because all of his pictures were black.  They thought he must be depressed.
The good Dr. asked why all his pictures were black?  The child said that when they passed the box of crayons around - he was the last one to get the box - and only the black crayon was left.

We had nap time and laid on a thin old rug.  I think the "Quiet Time" was to give the Teachers a break.  Mrs. Gleim was the teacher and
and Miss Buckmeyer  ( Mrs. Alma Yost)  was the Assistant Teacher.  She was beautiful-with
real long brown hair, and long finger-nails painted red, and red lipstick.  She was nice.
She played the piano and we sang nursery rhyme songs. - "Farmer in the /Dell"  We would stand
in a circle - a boy would stand in the middle and have to pick a wife.  The Girls would giggle.
I wonder --if today if either a boy or a girl could be the farmer and could they pick either a boy or
a girl?   Other play songs were "London Bridges", and  "Ring Around The Rosies, And "Itsey-Bitsey
Spider"
In Kindergarden Carol Butlin and I were the tallest  girls.  Carol was pretty and wore pretty dresses and saddle shoes that were always polished and shined.  I wore dresses too but my shoes were brown high tops with
scuffy toes with brown shoe laces that had broken many times and had to be tied together.

Canadian Trash

Under the Law - NAFTA,  Trucks haul Canadian trash to Michigan.

Michigan people do not want Canadian  trash. (Canada has much more land mass than Michigan.)

Change the law.  Immediately if not sooner.  If our Congress cannot make Canadian Trash in Michigan
Illegal - Vote in a New Congress that will.

Michigan  is known as-  "Water Wonderland"     Not- " The Wonder-Waste -Wallow"!

Happy/Healthy -New Year!

Dr. Furman recommends  the following 5 foods be in your diet.-  dptv.org.

Greens.
Onions.
Mushrooms.
Beans.
Seeds.

"Bean Soup"  1959 Farm Journal Cookbook - (A graduation gift)
2 Cups  dried beans, ( Any type-I like Navy)
    Wash beans, add 6 cups cold water and boil 2 minutes.  Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.
     ( or overnight with a little baking soda)
      Simmer beans without draining until tender, about 2 hours, adding more water if necessary.

1 ham bone or 11/2 lb. ham butt  - water to cover.  Simmer.   Let cool.  Skim fat from the top.  Add tender beans.
Add  apx. 1/2 Cup chopped onion, apx. 1 Cup chopped celery with leaves, 1 qt. Tomatoes-(home
canned-best), 3/4 Cup diced potatoes, (If no one is diabetic),  diced carrots, 1tsp. apx salt, 1/8 tsp -apx. black pepper.
Simmer apx. 20 minutes  .  Makes 10 servings.  Served with corn muffins- for a perfect protein.



Saute'd mushrooms:  Clean and peel pink- under-sided button caps and stems;  Saute in fresh butter.
Great over steak or multi-grained buttered toast.  Also good flavor for gravies.

Onions in almost all meat dishes and bottom of Turkey Roasting  pan -for better tasting gravy.

Seeds:  Flax seed in your oatmeal and other hot morning cereal.
             Seeds in your salads - add a healthy-crunchy touch.  (Any type)

P.S.  The bean soup recipe was used when most Mothers were full time home-makers.
         Now with most women working outside the home I would recommend getting handy with the
         Chinese wok.  Quick and easy.  ( My son wokked his way thru college.)
         (Regarding woman working- My Dad always said -"If a woman wants to work--Let her."

         Health is high trump.   When bad health is fate - attitude is still a choice.  Keep the faith.
