The Casual Observer 9/14/18

The Casual Observer - 9/14/18

In apx. 2003 I returned to St.Clair, Michigan, my home town.  I had spent apx. 16 yrs in

Algonac, Mi,   then apx. 20 yrs in  Birmingham, Bloomfield, Michigan.

I walked the Palmer Park Board- Walk.  Observed that the grass was brown and the board-walk

was littered with trash.  I picked up the trash, almost every day, for apx. a year and a half.

I would go into city hall and  Ask,  "How can you have a River Park and brown grass?"

"I'll come back another day and see if anyone knows."  Repeated this many times.

At about the time  they hired a City Manager, Scott Adkins, the City hired Jerry Diebold, to

install a sprinkler system and new sod.  Looks great!  Many people use the Park now.

2018 a beautiful new Board- Walk was installed.

And I hope fresh sod will  soon replace the crab-grass....that borders the Board-walk.

One day while I was on the Board-Walk I talked with teen-age boys with their skate-

boards.  They told me that if they were caught skate-boarding the streets  or side-walks of

St. Clair that the Police would take their skate boards and be charged $90.00 to get them back.

I asked them if they would like a skate - board Park?  They all enthusiastically said,  "YES!"

I told them  all to go to City Hall,  in a group and talk to Terice Hawkins, She is the head of

Parks and Recreation.  And together  the skate-boarding Teens and Terice Hawkins created the

Skate Board Park in Greg Park.

I asked them if their is anything else they would like and they said, Paths for off-road-bikes,

3 - wheelers.  I said ,OK, I'll see what I can do.  I talked to the City Engineer and He said,

"No Problem,  I have a bull-dozer, I could create trails and hills at Gregg Park. "

And it was created.  Thanks to the City Engineer.

Prior to the Police absconding with the skate-boards they took the kids bicycle's.  The absconded

bikes were piled high behind the St.Clair Public Service Building at Palmer/St.Clair Hwy.

I encouraged the city to return the bikes or sell them for trash.

This practice of taking the kids bikes was mean -spirited.

It's time for a kind-spirited/honest Leader.

I will vote November 6, 2018, for Katherline Huffmaster  for Mayor of St.Clair.
