n.1.    Betrayal or breach of allegiance or  of obedience toward one'a sovereign or government
       
           especially in the Constitution of the United States (Article III,  Section 3),  "Treason against

           the United States shall consist only of levying  war against  them, or in adhering to their           
           enemies, giving them aid and comfort."
