Slander? Treason?

If the T.V. networks permit slander of any of our elected officials---would this also be an act

of treason?  Could the Networks and talking heads be liable?  Could they be sued?

Repeating lies reduces the free press to trash talk.  Garbage', Junk.

Who sets the standards?  Who should be enforcing higher  standards?
